Neighborhood Activists Block More Signs

Wed Jul 13, 2011 | 03:00pm

Bungalow Haven neighborhood activists beat back an effort by Cottage Hospital to erect three times the square footage of real estate signs than city guidelines now permit in the neighborhood where the former St. Francis Hospital once stood. Cottage is building 81 units of housing, most of which are earmarked for hospital employees at below-market rate. But Cottage is selling some of the units at market rates. Some neighborhood activists have long contended the housing development is too intense for the neighborhood, but with little effect at City Hall. Their complaints about signage, however, found receptive ears at the Sign Committee hearing this week.
