In response to an attempt to develop Bishop Ranch, 240 acres of land zoned as agriculture smack dab in the middle of Goleta, Design Review Boardmember Bob Wignot has formed a community group called the Goodland Coalition. Its stated goal is to preserve urban agricultural land in Goleta. Spokesman Rich Foster says that the coalition will continue to monitor efforts at developing Bishop Ranch, but will also keep issues before the community “that might otherwise go under the radar.” The Environmental Defense Center represented the Goodland Coalition at a meeting in which developer Michael Keston’s application to build on Bishop Ranch was denied unanimously by the city council.
