As students face rising tuition costs at state and private colleges, the Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara during a ceremony last week doled out $7.35 million in awards to hundreds of S.B. youth, helping them access a higher education that would otherwise have been out of reach. The Scholarship Foundation, which partners with the Santa Barbara Foundation, was founded in 1962. The first awards were given in May 1963: nine $100 scholarships to area students. Since then the foundation has given out 30,446 awards totaling more than $65 million.
