Santa Barbara police have made direct contact with the woman they believe brandished a handgun during a family argument Wednesday, leading to a four-hour standoff after authorities received information the armed woman had barricaded herself and her two young children in her Milpas Street apartment.

It turned out Eunice Sanchez, 25, was not in the second-story residence, but she has since spoken to detectives by phone and agreed to a formal interview, explained Sgt. Jill Beecher.

The case will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office, which will determine if any criminal charges should be filed, explained Beecher. Police have not disclosed where the woman was found or how they were able to locate her, and said they were unable to provide any additional details on the incident. Authorities, however, don’t believe Sanchez’s children are in any immediate danger.
