Plea deals were reached for two defendants in a medical marijuana dispensary case Friday, while the alleged owner of the one-time dispensary — Humanity, on Bond Street — inches closer to trial.
Timothy Kurriss pleaded to a misdemeanor count of possession of more than an ounce of marijuana. He received credit for six days in jail. The charges against his wife were dismissed, and the couple forfeited a combined $10,000, according to Senior Deputy DA Brian Cota.
Earlier, Brennen Baptista pleaded to the same misdemeanor count as Kurriss, and had served 20 days in custody. Charges against another defendant, Raul Adame, were ultimately dismissed.
The four were all apparently employees at the dispensary, which authorities believe was operating outside of the Compassionate Use Act. They were arrested in January 2010. According to police, identification was never checked at the dispensary and medical marijuana recommendations were not verified.
Brandon Fox, the alleged owner of the dispensary, is the only outstanding defendant. He dropped his attorney Friday, and is currently in the process of getting a new one as he awaits trial. His next court date is August 10.
