A 17-year-old who was trapped outside overnight after his car careened off Gibraltar Road was rescued Saturday afternoon by firefighters and emergency medical responders. The teen, who was dehydrated and complained of neck and back pain, was hoisted to safety by helicopter and transported to Cottage Hospital’s Trauma Center.

The CHP is investigating the cause of the accident, which occurred the night before. The driver at some point tried to hike back to the road, and he was found by responders approximately 150 feet from his car, which was around 200 feet below the road.

The teen’s father used an iPhone tracking device to locate his son, calling in his location to 9-1-1 operators.
