Members of the Consumers Power Alliance met outside the S.B. courthouse this Tuesday to address the ongoing debate over smart meters. Former assemblymember Pedro Nava, an advocate of consumers’ right to opt out of smart meter installation at their homes, spoke to a small crowd of homeowners and reporters, largely to alert the public of the 12/14 meeting with the California Public Utilities Commission and Judge Amy C. Yip-Kikugawa. Yip-Kikugawa was the first to hand down a court order giving homeowners the legal right to opt out of smart meter service, for a fee. Friday’s meeting will discuss this fee, and the financial impact of smart meters.
