Edible Institute Comes to S.B.

Local Food Movement Leaders Converge in S.B.

Wed Mar 13, 2013 | 06:00am

This weekend, Edible Communities, the publishing collective of quarterly city magazines that include Edible Santa Barbara, brings the Edible Institute to town. The two-day event gathers together some of the area food movement’s biggest names, who will serve up food for thought in lectures, discussions, and demonstrations — and plenty of good food and drink to wash it all down. Among this year’s highlights are Saturday’s keynote speaker, Marion Nestle; Sunday’s appearance by Paul Willis, founder of the Niman Ranch Pork Company; Saturday afternoon’s panel on ocean acidification and oysters, which — not incidentally — will be preceded by oyster and wine pairings; and Saturday night’s gala. It promises to be a feast for the head, as well as the tummy.
