Sgt. Sandra Brown to Run for Sheriff

Sandra Brown, a 16-year veteran of the Sheriff’s office and currently in charge of the coroner’s bureau, will challenge Sheriff Bill Brown in 2014. The two are unrelated. Sandra Brown, in a statement, said Sheriff Brown — who faced no opposition to win a second term as sheriff — has failed in his decision making and leadership. She cited an understaffed gang unit and increasing violent crime in Isla Vista, among other issues.
