The county’s unemployment rate dropped from 7.2 percent in March 2013 to 6.0 percent in April 2013. It also is below the year-ago estimate of 7.7 percent, according to officials, and below the statewide average of 8.5 percent. Officials say unemployment could be down to 5.0 percent by 2016.
