A 17-year-old male was taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital on Monday afternoon with non-life threatening injuries after being stabbed in what authorities believe was a gang-related fight on State Street and Canon Perdido.

Police responded to calls of multiple people fighting just after 2:30 p.m., Sgt. Riley Harwood said Tuesday morning. They detained several subjects, interviewed them at the police station, and released them, he said. There is currently no one in custody, and the investigation is ongoing.

Harwood said the incident appeared to be the result of an “ongoing dispute” between two groups of people, mostly juveniles.

He said a number of witnesses have come forward with helpful information, and encourages anyone with info to contact Det. Ben Ahrens at (805) 897-2348 or bahrens@sbpd.com.
