A 54-year-old Santa Barbara County Jail inmate — Marcos Garza of Santa Maria — died June 10 from what appears to be natural causes, said Sheriff’s spokesperson Kelly Hoover. Garza, who had been booked June 4 on a theft charge, was transported from the jail to Cottage Hospital for an undisclosed medical emergency. He was treated for an ongoing medical condition, said Hoover, but passed away. Garza’s next of kin has been notified, and the Coroner’s Office will release a cause of death once its investigation is complete.
