The Santa Barbara Education Foundation secured $85,000 from the Women’s Fund of Santa Barbara to hire a female Youth Outreach Worker for the Santa Barbara school district. Since 2008, Ismael Huerta has worked with “at risk” youth helping them to curb unhealthy behaviors and focus on their studies. While he works with about 110 kids right now, only between 15-17 are female while girls between the ages 12 and 19 are the fastest-growing population in the corrections system.
