Firestone Walker Brewing Company Pils: American breweries’ attempts to emulate the suds you find in the outdoor beirgartens of Germany often fall far short of the crisp yet flavorful combo prevalent in the Old World.
But this “Pivo Hoppy Pilsner” by Firestone comes rather close to a total victory, its refreshingly effervescent, ultra light body enjoying enough oomph from the Saphir dry-hopping to be memorable. By being bitter enough for craft brew hopheads, though, it only misses the mark for traditional German maltiness, but that’s just quibbling over a pilsner perfect for summertime.
