Five alleged gang members police say were involved in a knife fight at 3 a.m. last Saturday that sent four people to the hospital have been formally charged by the District Attorney’s Office with attempted murder and gang enhancements. According to Deputy DA Hilary Dozer, the suspects are Edgar Alberto Castellanos, Abraham Vega, Jose Rene Santa Cruz, Rita Maria Rodriguez Mejia, and Itzel Ramirez. All are between 20 and 23 years old, but no additional information about their identities has been released.

Just as little is known about the gang fight the five were reportedly involved in. The day after the incident, SBPD spokesperson Riley Harwood told the media that a large brawl had taken place in the 200 block of Cottage Grove Avenue, a small road off Bath Street between West Haley and Gutierrez streets. Though the suspects and victims scattered, officers were able to locate four people — two men and two women — with stab wounds. They were transported to Cottage Hospital’s Emergency Room. As of earlier this week, two remained under care in stable condition.

An arraignment date for the suspects has not been set.
