When The Santa Barbara Independent unveiled the modern incarnation of Independent.com back in April 2007, we quickly rose to become the number one source for online news, arts, entertainment, and lifestyle coverage in the region, thanks to the expected mix of the weekly reporting that we’ve been doing since 1986 and the introduction of daily, up-to-the-minute news made possible in today’s digital era. Since then, we’ve strived to meld the printed page with our online offerings as much as possible, but we never offered the full experience of reading a hard copy while sitting at your computer or with an iPad in hand.
That all changes today, as The Santa Barbara Independent unveils a new experience every Thursday with our first crack at a “flipbook,” a PDF-powered format that lets you browse through the printed edition of the paper without getting ink on your hands. It’s especially ideal users of the iPad or other tablets, but it’s also perfect for anyone who prefers to enjoy newspapers as they were designed to be enjoyed.
