UCSB Faculty Continue to Protest New Health Insurance Plans

Thu Nov 07, 2013 | 12:00am

Nearly 300 UCSB faculty have signed a petition — headed for new UC President Janet Napolitano — protesting the upcoming changes to the UC system’s health insurance plans and asking that UCSB employees get the same insurance options as their other UC colleagues. The plans, which take effect in January, are axing Anthem Blue Cross in favor of a three-tired program called UC Care, which offers a $20 copay PPO plan that Sansum Clinic, Cottage Hospital, and UC have yet to agree to terms to; those providers will be accessible through other plans. UCSB employees will meet with UC officials on Thursday, 11/7 at Corwin Pavilion.
