November is too modest in my opinion. The middle child between Halloween and the holidays, it could easily be overlooked, if not for its call to brilliant reflection, encouraging us to take a moment to be thankful for those around us and looking ahead to the truly important times to come. The Johnny Boy features flavors that make you slow down to savor and is a drink best enjoyed with a splash of reflection and a shot of Roy Orbison.

The Johnny Boy

Stir 1 ounce cider vinegar with 2 ounces farmers-market honey, 4 dashes of bitters, and 8 ounces of your favorite rye. Pour into snifters and garnish with a frozen cube of honeycomb. Serves four.
