Scouts Must Turn Over Files

Santa Barbara Superior Court Judge Donna Geck today ordered the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) to turn over 20 years of so-called “perversion files” involving molestation cases, a step that could make them evidence in a case to be heard in October.

The case involves the molestation of a 13-year-old Santa Barbara scout. The molester pleaded no contest several years ago, but the current civil case seeks punitive damages against the BSA.

Santa Barbara attorney Tim Hale seeks to show that BSA had a secret file of these and other abuse files going back many years, but did not take sufficient steps to warn the public and parents of scouts of the danger of molestation.
