Social Workers Ask for Help

County social workers came out in force at Tuesday’s supervisors meeting, speaking during public comment about the need to hire — and retain — more social workers to decrease employees’ caseloads and provide clients with more individualized attention. They noted the lack of “seasoned veterans” holding those positions and said that employee turnover puts kids at risk. The treasurer of the Service Employees International Union Local 721, which represents those employees, urged the board to “prioritize public safety” during the budget deliberations in June.
