Teachers Receive Pay Raise

Thu Dec 11, 2014 | 12:00am

The Santa Barbara school board approved a 3 percent raise for teachers — retroactive to July 1 — in a revised contract on Tuesday night. In March, teachers received a 3 percent pay hike, which was the first after a five-year freeze. Superintendent David Cash commended the bargaining parties, adding that like a fair compromise, both sides left the table a little hungry. Cash noted more money does not always translate to better performance, but he said it was definitely well-deserved. Teachers who have worked for the district for five years earn between $52,700-$59,400, depending on their education levels. Boardmembers also renewed Cash’s contract through June 2017. Cash earns $242,871 in base pay.
