Santa Barbara police arrested two teenagers suspected of breaking into at least a dozen city businesses during a late night burglary spree that caused as much as $100,000 in damages. The teens, 16 and 17 years old, were taken into custody at around 4 a.m. Saturday near the Chapala Street MTD station. They’ve been booked into Juvenile Hall, but their names were not released because they are minors. Police say they’re looking for a possible third suspect.
The break-ins reportedly began at the La Bella Rosa Bakery on San Andres Street before moving all over town to Super Cucas Restaurant, Dahlia’s Beauty Salon, Mobil Gas, Instant Klasick, GameStop, Paradise Tobacco, Fuzion, South Coast Deli, and The Santa Barbara Public Market, among other locations.
Police said the teens used rocks and bricks to smash through windows and doors before trying to open the businesses’ cash registers.
