Santa Barbara County firefighters were called out Sunday to rescue a 105-pound German Shepard that became severely dehydrated while hiking with its owner on the San Julian Trail near Gaviota. With temperatures reaching 90 degrees, the owner called 9-1-1 to report her dog, named Luna, was in distress and unable to move. Firefighters and paramedics travelled to their location about a mile from the trailhead with three large bags of ice. They started to cool down Luna, then administered an IV through one of her front paws. Luna was then transported to an emergency vet clinic in Santa Barbara where she recovered.
