Venoco submitted last month an emergency permit application to the City of Goleta to transport 34 truckloads of oil over 17 days from its Ellwood Onshore Facility to a location about 50 miles north. The letter argues that 5,500 barrels of stored crude must be removed due to “time-sensitive inspections and maintenance” necessary for the “safety” of its equipment. Goleta spokesperson Valerie Kushnerov said there is not a prescribed timeline for when city staff has to grant or deny the permits. A public comment period will take place at City Hall on 8/13 at 6 p.m.
