County Planning Commission Splits Vote but Rule Awaits Further Approval

Proponents of a county ordinance that would allow short-term vacation rentals on unincorporated agricultural lands won a victory on February 24 via split vote by the Santa Barbara County Planning Commission. That momentum, however, needs to pass scrutiny by the Montecito Planning Commission before reaching the public hearings and final vote of the Board of Supervisors later this year. Late last year, both commissions voted to ban short-term rentals in residential neighborhoods.
