Fish without a license on Saturday during Free Fishing Day throughout California.

California’s last Free Fishing Day of the year is Saturday, September 3, during which anglers and would-be anglers of all ages can fish without a license. The Department of Fish and Wildlife initiative encourages experienced anglers to invite friends and family for day of freshwater or ocean fishing.

In related news on a national level, President Obama has launched the second year of the Every Kid in a Park program, which provides any fourth grader with a one-year free pass to federally managed lands and waters, including national parks, forests, wildlife refuges, and marine sanctuaries. The pass is valid from September 1, 2016 through August 31, 2017, and grants free entry for the fourth grader and up to three accompanying adults (or an entire noncommercial vehicle for drive-in parks) at more than 2,000 sites across the country.
