A motorcyclist, identified as Jacob Franks of Nipomo, was killed Wednesday morning in a traffic collision on northbound Highway 101 in Carpinteria. According to the CHP, Franks was splitting the number 1 and 2 lanes — which is legal in California when done safely — when he collided into the left side of a car then rear-ended another vehicle. He was thrown from his motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene. Northbound lanes were closed for approximately 90 minutes, and traffic was diverted to the Santa Monica Road off-ramp. The CHP said it’s unknown if alcohol was a factor in the collision.
