Prompted by the results of the November 8 election, Patagonia will donate 100 percent of its Black Friday (November 25) sales to grassroots environmental groups, according to Lisa Pike Sheehy, vice president of environmental activism at the Ventura-based outdoor equipment and appeal company. “We definitely came up with the idea after the election,” she said in a statement. “This is a difficult and divisive time for our country. I believe the environment is something we can all come together on.” The donations — estimated to total more than $2 million — will be generated by sales at patagonia.com and Patagonia’s 80 retail stores worldwide. President-elect Donald Trump has called climate change a hoax and threatened to pull the U.S. out of its commitment to the Paris Agreement, a negotiated global framework for reducing and mitigating greenhouse gas emissions starting in 2020.
