$700,000 Earmarked for Becker Well Capping

Adopting the state budget on 6/27, Governor Jerry Brown has signed over $700,000 toward the capping of Summerland’s notorious Becker Well, an improperly abandoned relic oil well that has been leaking sticky crude for years. Last year, Brown earmarked an equal amount to launch the capping project’s engineering study and environmental impact report, headed up by the State Lands Commission. The report’s public-comment window closed on 7/5.
