An altercation at a property on the 5000 block of Highway 166 in New Cuyama is apparently the reason Travis John Studer died on July 25, the Sheriff’s Office stated the next day. A “subject down” call sent Sheriff’s deputies and County Fire personnel to the scene, where they determined Studer, a 41-year-old resident of New Cuyama, looked like he’d been hit by a car. Investigators located and interviewed Doug Allen Lewis, 33, also of New Cuyama, then booked him in County Jail on a charge of vehicular manslaughter. His bail is set at $50,000.
