Until further notice, the spiny lobster commercial fishery near Anacapa Island and the east end of Santa Cruz Island is closed due to unhealthy levels of domoic acid, a potent neurotoxin produced by a naturally occurring marine alga. The recreational fishery remains open with a warning to avoid eating lobster viscera.
