Another Room
Central to Detto’s work is an interest in the hidden lives of images and buildings. Rather than documenting architecture according to conventional rules of perspective, he seeks disorienting viewpoints, fragmented structures, and unexpected visual relationships that reveal the emotional and psychological dimensions of space. In works such as his architectural triptychs, familiar urban environments become unstable constructions where memory and personal association intersect.
Language also occupies a significant place in his practice. Drawing from a long-standing fascination with the relationship between text and image, Detto incorporates short written fragments that function less as explanations than as poetic gestures, subtle interventions that shift perception and establish mood.
Following studies in the humanities, art history, and Romance philology in Germany, Detto developed an interdisciplinary approach informed by cinema and photography through postgraduate studies at the National Film School in Łódź, Poland. After relocating to Los Angeles in 2004, he continued his photographic training at Otis College of Art and Design.
Detto has exhibited internationally in the United States, Europe, and Southeast Asia. Recent solo exhibitions include BUILDING at the Los Angeles Center for Digital Art (LACDA, Los Angeles) and earlier projects include Cambodian Ghosts at Meta House in Phnom Penh, as well as Auf der Jagd nach dem KSM (Hunting the KSM) in Munich.
