Blind Fitness celebrates National White Cane Awareness Day every October!

Join us Saturday, October 17 from 9:30 AM–12:00 PM as we celebrate the power, purpose, and independence represented by the white cane.

For people who are blind or have low vision, the white cane is more than a mobility tool – it is a symbol of freedom, independence, and safety. White Cane Awareness Day highlights the vital role the white cane plays in independent travel while helping educate the broader community about its purpose and significance.

As part of our annual celebration, we’ll take our message into the community with a White Cane Awareness Walk through Santa Barbara’s Funk Zone. Together, blind and low vision participants, volunteers, family, friends, and community members will walk through this vibrant neighborhood to increase visibility, raise awareness, and promote greater understanding of white cane use and accessibility.

We’re thrilled to collaborate with Access Central Coast, Braille Institute, and UCSB Delta Gamma, with special support from Jeannine’s Bakery by the Beach, for this year’s White Cane Awareness Community Walk!

Who: All people who are blind or have low vision, along with their family, friends, and community members.

Location: Skater’s Park | 100 E Cabrillo Blvd., Santa Barbara CA

Event Schedule

9:30-10 am: New volunteer/participant human guide blind sensitivity training
10-10:30 am: Welcome circle, History of White Cane Awareness Day
10:30-11:30 am: Community accessibility walk through the Funk Zone
11:30-12 pm: Social Time, Jeannine’s Scones & Raffle Prizes
