The Santa Barbara County Fire Safe Council is pleased to announce a two day community event planned for Friday, October 14 2022 and Saturday October 15, 2022 at Direct Relief 6100 Wallace Becknell Rd, Santa Barbara, CA. The mission of the event includes educating the public about wildfire and wildfire preparedness, along with providing residents the tools they need to be prepared for the next wildfire. The event is also intended to promote involvement in Firewise USA®, a community preparedness program that several communities in Santa Barbara are already participating in to take charge of mitigating their wildfire risk.

Friday’s event, co-hosted with UC Santa Barbara, will kick off at 4:30 pm with a presentation from Keynote speaker, Prof. Park Williams. He will discuss the topic, “Why Have Humans Lost Control of Wildfire in the Western United States?” Afterwards, there will be a reception from 5:30 pm- 7 pm. Food and drinks will be served while the conversation is continued.

Saturday’s festivities will start at 11 am and finish at 5 pm. There will be informational booths, and a panel of County representatives from the Fire Department, Planning Department, and Sheriffs.  Additionally, there will be a presentation from the Department of Insurance, engines from the local stations, a hotshot crew demonstration, and live fire extinguisher training. For the families attending we will have a bounce house, free pizza, free popcorn, and prizes for completing enough activities! If conditions permit, the Santa Barbara County Firehawk Helicopter may do a landing demonstration again!
