Ortega Park Steering Committee aka #OccupyOrtegaPark is pleased to host the Afro-Chicanx Digital Humanities Project: Memories, Narratives, and Oppositional Consciousness of Black Diasporas as a free community workshop of cultural exploration. Presented with JohnJairo of UCSB Las Maestras Center, Prof. Dora Careaga-Coleman invites the community to discover ” Flavors of the African Diaspora especially the African origins of Mexican Foods.” This will be an interactive dialogue about the importance of AfroMexican foodways as a form of cultural retention with sensorial engagement with food, through touch, taste, and storytelling.
The workshop will include “AfroChicanx Photo Albums” exploring photography as a resource to reconstruct family identity and community genealogy. BRING your family photos to share stories and learn about tools on how to digitize them.
