SOhO Music Club welcomes acclaimed guitar virtuosos Ardeshir Farah and Luis Villegas on Wednesday, September 2, for an evening of Latin-inspired rhythms, flamenco, world music, and virtuosic guitar.
Farah is best known as one half of the Grammy-nominated duo Strunz & Farah, whose partnership began in Los Angeles in 1979. Drawing from their Costa Rican and Iranian roots, Jorge Strunz and Ardeshir Farah pioneered a distinctive acoustic guitar style that blends Afro-Caribbean, Latin American folk, flamenco, Middle Eastern music, and jazz. Their highly rhythmic, improvisation-rich sound has inspired guitarists and audiences worldwide, establishing them as pioneers of contemporary world guitar.
Beyond Strunz & Farah, Farah has shared the stage with legendary artists including Miles Davis, Béla Fleck, and Bonnie Raitt, showcasing his remarkable versatility and technical mastery.
Joining him is Mexican American guitarist Luis Villegas, known for his rapid-fire fingerpicking and energetic fusion of flamenco, jazz, and contemporary instrumental music. His acclaimed album Café Olé earned a spot on the 1999 Grammy ballot for Best New Age Album of the Year.
Together, Farah and Villegas bring an exciting blend of Latin music, flamenco, world jazz, and acoustic guitar, creating a dynamic performance that highlights both the rich traditions and limitless possibilities of the instrument.
