Does your stomach clench when you feel anxious? What happens to your shoulders when there’s a lot on your plate? Do you have pain that doctors can’t seem to find a cause for?

From the Greek word ‘soma’ meaning ‘body’, somatic psychotherapy seeks to heal the residue of trauma by incorporating the body and its experiences into talk therapy. By exploring how our bodily systems have been shaped by what we’ve been through, we’re able to develop more control over both our physiological and emotional responses to everyday life.

Join us 5-7pm on Sunday August 27th at Arrowsmith’s in Solvang as Christina Valdez, registered associate marriage and family therapist and registered professional clinical counselor, not only explains what somatic therapy is all about, the science behind it, and calming techniques utilized, but also takes us through an actual somatic exercise she uses in her practice.

This talk replaces the postponed talk ‘The Characters of Cheers’ by Cheri Steinkellner, date TBC.
