Buellton City Council Candidates Forum

The Buellton Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a candidates’ forum on Sunday afternoon, October 16th at the Oak Valley Elementary School’s Multi-purpose room. Since Buellton is now divided into four zones, with zones 1 and 4 having elections this year as well as an at-large mayor’s election, the forum will be divided into three parts.

1–2:00 PM. Zone 1 Forum with candidates Hudson Hornick and Tom Widroe. Both are new to Buellton city government so the forum will give the voters in Zone 1 the chance to meet them. Zone 1 covers Rancho de Maria, Diaryland, and both mobile home parks: River Grove and Ranch Club Estates

2-3:00 PM. City-wide mayor’s election. There are two sitting city council members running for mayor: Elysia Lewis and Dave King. All city residents can vote for the mayor’s position. Also, at this session there will be information on the Buellton School R 2022 bond extension to repair aging facilities.

3-4:00 PM. Zone 4 Forum with candidates David Silva and Art Mercado. David Silva is a first-time candidate while Art Mercado is a former city council member. Zone 4 covers all of Buellton east of Highway 101 as well as the far north-west area of Central Avenue and Jonata Park Road

The public will be able to submit questions to the candidates and visit with them at information tables. The Oak Valley Multipurpose room is located at 525 Second Street in Buellton. If you are not sure what election zone you are in, go the city of Buellton’s website, click on government, then on elections. A map of the zones will come up. No matter what, be sure to vote. You can vote in person at the SY Valley Marriott, mail your ballot via the US Postal Service, or drop it off at the box in front of City Hall, located at 107 West Highway 246.
