Carpinteria Birdwatchers hold a monthly birdwatching class every third Wednesday, at the Carpinteria Library. The class includes a friendly presentation of birds in the Santa Barbara bight, is open to all ages and levels of interest, and a brief snack break. The group usually meets for a local field trip the following Saturday.

February 2020 Class Details:

• When: Wednesday, February 19, 2020, 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

• Where: Carpinteria Public Library multipurpose room, 5141 Carpinteria Ave., Carpinteria, near Maple Ave.

• Subjects: Geese & UCSB’s North Campus Open Space (NCOS)

February Outing Details:

• When: Saturday, February 22, 2020, 8:30 a.m. to about 11:00 a.m. or 12:00 p.m.

• Where: North Campus Open Space, Goleta (Phelps Road in Goleta, near (34.4248190, -119.8810184)

DIRECTIONS: From Carpinteria drive northbound on Highway 101 to the Glen Annie Road toward Storke Road exit in Goleta. Turn left onto Glen Annie Road, right on Hollister Avenue, left on Pacific Oaks Road, and right into Phelps Road. Park on the shoulder bordering the open space.

CARPOOL INFO: Those wishing to meet me (John Callender) for carpool purposes can do so at the Smart & Final parking lot on Linden Avenue in Carpinteria, on the side of the parking lot near the Linden Avenue seal fountain. We’ll be leaving that location at 8:00 a.m. • Duration: My plan is to spend 2 to 3 hours at NCOS, returning to our starting carpool location in Carpinteria between 11:00 a.m. and noon.

Things to BRING:

• Binoculars (if you have them)

• Clothing and footwear suitable for walking

• Sun protection

• Water

Directions for all Wednesday evening classes: Classes are held at: Carpinteria Public Library multipurpose room, 5141 Carpinteria Avenue near Maple Ave., Carpinteria, CA 93013. If you face the library from Carpinteria Avenue the multipurpose room is on the right (west) side of main library building. It is attached to the library building, but has its own entrance facing the street.
