Yar Jan Arí (Come, My Beloved): Choral and Vocal Music from Armenia

This concert’s repertoire of 20th- and 21st-century Armenian choral music is rarely encountered outside Armenia, and will be sung in Armenian, Russian, English, and Ukrainian. Our performance, which includes a North American premiere, will be led by Santa Barbara-based guest conductor and Armenian choral music specialist, Steven Browning Thomson. Mr. Thomson is a current Master’s of Music candidate at UCSB, directs the newly formed tenor/bass ensemble, The Singing Gauchos, and also serves as the Assistant to the Conductor of the Santa Barbara Choral Society. The program will also feature a set of Armenian art songs, sung by UCSB graduate voice student Marta Hovhannisyan.
