An evening service intended for rest and contemplation. Compline is led by the Rev. Sarah Thomas. It begins with synthesized ambient music by DJ artist, Andrew Elia, then a transition with loose-leaf brewed herbal tea, and concludes with the opportunity to hear a person share a personal story.
This month’s storyteller is Michael Kearney, MD. Michael will tell a story about trees and deep resilience, reflecting on healing in the redwoods of Big Sur. He worked as a palliative care and hospice physician for forty years, sitting at the bedsides of those who are seriously ill and dying. He is the founder and director of the Becoming Forest Project, and his most recent novel Becoming Forest came out in 2023. Michael and his wife Radhule Weininger offer mindfulness meditation teachings to the Santa Barbara community. Incense and candlelight are used during the service. Trinity is an LGBTQ+ welcoming and affirming congregation. www.trinitysb.org/compline
