“Grade & Grab!” Volunteer Cleanup with the City of Santa Barbara

Join the City of Santa Barbara’s Creeks Division for our first volunteer-based trash assessment and cleanup event.

We will gather to learn how to grade City blocks from A to D, and about California’s bold goal to prevent all litter from reaching our storm drains, creeks, and the ocean. Staff will provide a quick training on how to perform an Onland Visual Trash Assessment (OVTA), then set out in teams to grade our streets and grab any litter they find.

To participate in this event, you must be able to use a smartphone to submit survey information or partner with someone who is comfortable doing this task. We will create teams to ensure every group has a smartphone user.

You are welcome to come alone/without a smart phone. Volunteers should be prepared to walk around the City for up to 2 hours and pick up trash along the way. Please wear comfortable shoes, bring a water bottle, and consider sun protection.

At the end of the day, your participation will have helped the City understand its trash accumulation and you will have physically removed trash from our streets!

Light breakfast snacks and a bagged lunch will be provided.

Please RSVP via our Google Form. For more information, please contact Caroline Shepherd at CShepherd@SantaBarbaraCA.gov
