Born in Los Angeles to Louisiana Cajun and Creole parents, Domonic Dean Breaux studied at the California Institute of the Arts and the Brandes Art Institute before making a name for himself as a commercial artist in the city. He has painted Sunset Boulevard billboards, made set designs and storyboards for major Hollywood studios, and contributed to group exhibitions in venues such as the ACE Gallery and the LA County Department of Arts & Culture, all whilst moonlighting as an avant-garde musician on LA’s underground club scene.

After making art and music in Ojai for over 20 years, Breaux moved here in 2017, bringing a wry urban sensibility to his new home, through works which combine shades of Ed Ruscha, David Hockney, Georgia O’Keefe, Man Ray, and the land- and time-based artists of the 1970s & 80s.

His first one-man exhibition, Do What You Love Until You Die will feature Breaux’s vibrant and distinctive landscape paintings of Ojai alongside drawings and sculptures which bring elements of that landscape to life. Fusing influences from Pop Art and Surrealism, Domonic Dean Breaux’s art presents a new vision of Ojai that is playful, meditative, and enigmatic.
