The Santa Barbara Public Library Presents its Local History Speaker Series:

The Edson Smith Historic Photograph & Library Archives Preservation Project with Jace Turner, Community Relations Librarian

What started out as a one-year digitization project of 1,200 Edson Smith Photographs, turned into three-year archival and preservation project that accomplished the digitization of over 3,000 historic photographs and the preservation of the Santa Barbara Public Library’s historical archives going back to 1882. Many of the local historians who presented at the Library’s Centennial History Series shared their local history expertise and assisted with this impressive preservation project. This presentation will show highlights from the 2017 History Series, showcase the latest additions to the Edson Smith Historic Photograph Collection, and provide a rare glimpse into the Faulkner Memorial Art Gallery’s impressive art exhibitions and musical performances during the 1930s. A light reception will follow hosted by the Santa Barbara Public Library Foundation to honor the project’s donor, John Woodward of the Woodward Fund.
