Artist Debbi Green will be showcasing her works in a month long exhibition at Gallery Los Olivos, 2920 Grand Ave, Los Olivos, from 10 am to 4pm daily, February 1st through the 29th, 2024. The exhibition, En Mi Corazón’: Amigos y Familia, showcases Green’s innate ability to capture in her paintings the feelings and characteristics of the farm animal she loves. Green has been an artist all her life and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fashion Design from University California Los Angeles. She went on to work in this field designing sportswear, textiles, vintage clothing, children’s hand-painted furniture and costumes in the film industry. Green wanted to learn how to paint people, but found her talent and joy was in painting animals.“My first pet portrait was my doberman sitting in the driver’s side of my car. His face just said, ‘Get in, let’s go!’,” she describes. “Something clicked and I knew then, I could capture a silly antic or even a thought process in their eyes.”

After turning 50 years old, Green decided to pursue her passion for painting full time and studied with signature artists from the California Art Club and Los Angeles Art Academy. “My lifestyle is the backdrop and muse for my artwork. I live on a lake, at the base of the Santa Monica Mountains, near 40 acre ranches with every type of farm animals,” she says. Whether it is her fiery friend, Chloe Bathelona, the vibrant and postured hen, or two tranquil cows enjoying the sun in a meadow of wildflowers, Green’s artistry takes the viewer on a pleasant journey with vibrant colors, beautiful scenery and adorable farm animals. Green enjoys painting and exhibiting her works through affiliations with the Malibu Art Association, California Art Club and the former Topanga Canyon Gallery (a prominent gallery which closed in 2022). Her works can be found in fine boutiques such as Topanga Homegrown, Coutula in Venice and the Enchanted Studios Rentals.

She will be holding an artist reception on February 3 rd at Gallery Los Olivos from noon to 3 pm. Visitors can meet Green and might hear a story about the heart-warming animals’ she paints and the delight they give her. “When I start to paint, it really is a feeling I want to create. All that beauty I see, brings me such joy. I hope that my paintings bring meaning to the viewers,” she says. “The horse photos (I paint from) were taken at the ‘Return to Freedom’ horse sanctuary in San Luis Obispo and a percentage of all my sales go to Guide Dogs of America,” says Green, who wants to continue to give back to the animals and create awareness about their lives and the importance of them in ours and the world.

She has many works for the exhibition at the Gallery Los Olivos beginning February 1 st . The exhibit and reception are free to the public.
