On Thursday, May 14th, 7:00-9:00 pm (ish), at the State Street Ballet Academy 2285 Las Positas Ave, Studio B, Santa Barbara Scottish Country Dance Classes will be hosting a beginner’s family-friendly all-ages ceilidh dance class.
Casual and high-energy, these are dances often done at weddings, celebrations, and community events, when the focus is on social interaction and fun. The “caller” will walk participants through the steps before the music starts and calls out instructions during the dance. With wonderful recorded Scottish tunes played on instruments like the fiddle, accordion, and bagpipes, we’ll have a joyful evening learning some of the most well-known dances, like:
- Gay Gordons: A popular, fast-paced couple dance danced in a circle.
- Dashing White Sergeant: A energetic dance involving groups of three.
- Strip the Willow: A very common, fast-paced finale dance.
- Canadian Barn Dance: A popular, fun, and lively couples’ dance.
There’s no pressure to bring a partner, and no experience needed. $10 per person suggested, $5 minimum. Direct any questions to Rachel McDonald at Rachel@FitnessRachel.com, or call/text her at 805-705-7480.
