Join reporter and author Katya Cengel for an engaging conversation with Oksana Yakushko, a member of the Ukrainian diaspora. The discussion will explore her experience reporting from the ruins of the Soviet Union as a young journalist in Ukraine. Copies of Cengel’s memoir, From Chernobyl, With Love.

Katya Cengel is a freelance writer and author based in California. Her work has appeared in New York Times Magazine, Marie Claire, Newsweek, Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post among other publications. She has reported from North and Central America, Europe, Asia and Africa and was based in the former Soviet Union for half a decade.

Oksana Yakushko is a local psychologist, consultant, published author, and professor. As a member of Ukrainian diaspora, she’s been involved in local, national, and international events that focus on war against Ukraine and its impact. She’s worked with the UN affiliate groups, NGOs, USAID projects, Ukrainian organizations of psychologists, refugee programs, and Theater of War productions. She grew up in Kyiv, Ukraine, and experienced the impact of Chernobyl in 1986 and after.
