THE MARJORIE LUKE THEATRE PRESENTS OUT OF PLAIN SIGHT AS PART OF ITS GREEN FILM SERIES Sunday, October 25, 2026, at 4:00 PM,
From Los Angeles Times environmental reporter and Pulitzer Prize finalist Rosanna Xia, OUT OF PLAIN SIGHT investigates a little-known environmental disaster hidden beneath the waters off Southern California.
The story begins with David Valentine, a UC Santa Barbara scientist who discovered a corroded barrel on the seafloor not far from Catalina Island. His discovery opened the door to a much larger environmental mystery and a troubling chapter in California’s history.
The documentary has received more than a dozen prominent film festival honors, including the Audience Choice Award at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival and the Jackson Wild Media Award for best investigative film.
Following the screening, audiences will have the opportunity to hear directly from Xia and a panel of esteemed scientists during a post-film Q&A discussion.
