Belmond El Encanto Hotel & Spa
As part of El Encanto, A Belmond Hotel’s cinematic speaker series—an intimate and engaging forum where guests and locals can connect with influential voices in film, arts, and culture—American journalist Gustavo Arellano will host The Cinematic Murals of Gabriel Figueroa on Saturday, April 12th, from 10 AM to noon.
Regarded as Mexico’s fourth muralist, Gabriel Figueroa defined the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema by capturing the essence and aesthetic through chiaroscuro and creating beauty from tragedy as seen in films such as Enamorada (1946), Los Olvidados (1951) Macario (1960) and The Night of the Iguana (1964).
A film screening of John Huston’s Night of the Iguana, the film that earned Figueroa his only Academy Award nomination, will follow at The Riviera Theater, adjacent to the hotel.
