Brian “Heartbass” Hartman is our guest Minister of Music this Sunday. He says, “I grew up listening to music from the African Diaspora, and that is reflected in the music I play. I’ve also spent the last several years sharing music around Central America, and that Latin flavor is a big part of my sound. Within that Afro-Latin context, there are so many sounds, styles, & cultures to explore. I hope the music I share connects people to that part of our DNA that yearns to dance all night around the fire with community, which to me is really not too different from what we do at ecstatic dance.
For me, the best part about ecstatic dance is the dancers themselves. In no other setting do I get to share music with such a captive audience, an audience that is there with intention to dance. Ecstatic dance floors tend to be fully engaged, more than forgiving, and are an incredibly rewarding and fun place for me to play.
I think it’s a DJ’s job is to be a trendsetter, to be ahead of the curve, and to be sharing fresh music that most have never heard before. This music that I bring means a lot to me, and I feel honored to play it. I don’t take this opportunity lightly, as I know people are healing, going deep, and generally celebrating life in a really open and unique way during these dances. I hope the music I share is meaningful, timeless, and inspiring. Ecstatic dance is a place for me to close my eyes, and let the music move me. You’ll definitely catch me dancing during my entire set as I simply love this music and I love to dance.”
Brian “HeartBass” Hartman resides in Nevada City, CA where he is considered one of the leaders in the underground West Coast music scene both as a DJ & event producer.
